Scholarly Communications and Copyright: Current Landscapes and Possible Futures
Start Date: 3/21/2014Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Date: 3/21/2014End Time: 11:00 AM

Event Description
Copyright affects everything in the academic world of today. Authors’ fees and restrictive licenses have led to an inhospitable climate for scholarly publishing; restrictions on using copyrighted material continue to create challenges for online learning and distance education; and research is stymied by articles and data sets hidden behind licenses and firewalls. Libraries are in a unique position to address these issues by advocating for a balance between authors rights and the dissemination of information. This event will open a discussion on how the Drexel community can create a sustainable academic environment and enact change in the current scholarly communications culture by examining its current status and how it should change in the future.

Drexel University Libraries invites you to join this discussion, led by Kevin Smith, scholarly communications officer at Duke University, and a panel of experts, on March 21. Click here to RSVP.
