Event Description
Join us in viewing and discussing the compelling documentary film Las Muertes Chiquitas (2009). Spanish filmmaker Mireia Sallarès interviewed 30 Mexican women from all walks of life – psychologists, professors, sex workers, AIDS activists, revolutionaries, students and nuns – who reflect upon love, identity, family, sexuality, gender violence, political protest and activism. The women poignantly, openly and at times with great humor, recount their own stories of adversity and triumph through these prisms and within a cultural context where such frank discussions on taboo subjects are rarely documented. Highlights from the five-hour film will be screened over two nights Tuesday, March 3 and March 10 6-7:30 p.m. with discussions immediately following screenings. Light refreshments will be served.
The event will have two parts
Trigger warning: Film and discussion topics, including gender and sexual violence, could be upsetting for some guests. Please also be advised that the subject matter is intended for a mature audience.
