Start Date: 3/1/2017Start Time: 3:30 PM
End Date: 3/1/2017End Time: 5:00 PM

Event Description
John R. Bethea PhD,  professor and head of biology

Chronic pain is the number one health care problem worldwide and is estimated to affect one quarter of the world’s population. Women suffer significantly more from chronic pain than men and also experience more severe pain and are frequently less responsive to therapies that are effective in men. Chronic pain has both a sensory and an affective component in that chronic pain is often co-morbid with anxiety, depression and memory disorders. Finally, neuroinflammation is a significant contributor to the development of pain worldwide. This lecture will discuss principles of sex/gender differences and neuroinflammation in the development of chronic pain.

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Seminars are free and open to the Drexel community. Light refreshments will be served.
