10th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges
Start Date: 3/2/2017Start Time: 8:30 AM
End Date: 3/2/2017End Time: 5:30 PM

Event Description

The Office of International Programs will host the 10th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges on Thursday, March 2, 2017, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, 3210 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Innovations in technology and transportation have made it more possible than ever to connect across borders. Information, ideas, innovations, and capital, as well as pollution, disease, illegal drugs, weapons, and some people move easily across borders, while an increasing number of refugees and economic migrants find themselves blocked at these same, often porous borders. What are the costs and benefits of an increasingly interconnected world? This conference offers students the occasion to share their research and engage in critical reflection and dialogue on how the opportunities and threats of border crossings are shaping our global context from such diverse disciplines as health, engineering, education, science, human rights, medicine, law, media and arts, economics, politics, development, and history.

The Conference provides an important opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to experience the environment of an academic conference right here on campus.

Any student (undergraduate or graduate) who has conducted independent research or completed a project for class that is related to the theme of Crossing Borders and has a global aspect is welcome to apply to be a student panelist. There will be six student panels throughout the day:

-    Global Political and Social Trends
-    Global Science, Technology, and Society
-    Global Business and Economic Trends
-    Global Justice and Human Rights
-    Global Health
-    Global Media, Culture, and Arts
