Event Description
BIOMED Seminar
Title:
Nanotechnology in Genomic Studies
Speaker: Ming Xiao, PhD Associate Professor School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems Drexel University
Abstract: Next-generation sequencing technology has fundamentally changed the approach of biological and clinical research. Dr. Xiao’s lab is focusing on developing genomic technologies based on nano/microtechnology and their applications in genomic studies. Dr. Xiao will discuss recent research activities in his lab, including population-specific patterns of structural variations across 26 human populations, as well as single molecule high-throughput telomere-length measurements and the characterization of the 22q deletion syndrome.
Biosketch: Ming Xiao, PhD, is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University. Before joining Drexel, Dr. Xiao had worked in industry for a number of years. He has published extensively and is the co-inventor on many patents.
Dr. Xiao's current research efforts are split between genomic technology development and its applications in large-scale genomic studies. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). |
