Cities around the country are beginning to mandate that commercial buildings benchmark their utility use to help jumpstart retrofits and upgrades. Benchmarking is already in place in New York, Washington, D.C., Austin, Seattle, and San Francisco. Philadelphia is considering similar legislation this year. This briefing and discussion will explore utility benchmarking as a national trend as well as the impact that this practice could have on our regional economy, building stock, local businesses, and consumer communications.
