Event Description
BIOMED Distinguished Lecture

Hosted by the Office of International Programs and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems

Title:
Minimally-invasive Modalities for Self-Healing and Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Speaker:
Lisa X. Xu, PhD
VP of Education
Dean of Graduate School
Dean of Zhiyuan College
Director of Med-X Research Institute
Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Details:
In the first part of this talk, two novel treatment modalities against metastatic cancer and atherosclerosis developed in our lab will be discussed, respectively. Compared with current approaches, minimal external physical intervention has been attempted to stimulate maximal internal body responses, i.e. anti-tumor immune response in cancer patients and inhibition of smooth muscle stem cell differentiation in atherosclerosis formation, to enhance the treatment efficacy through the synergetic effect. Experimental and numerical results will be presented, along with validations in animal models.

In the second part of this talk, the Biomedical Engineering Program at Shanghai Jiao Tong University will be introduced, with the focus on its unique position in translational biomedical research, global innovation partnerships, and education.
