Event Description
Women's Herstory Month is a time when Drexel commemorates the history, achievements and contributions women have made in our community and the world. Women's History Month was first celebrated nationally in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized President Jimmy Carter to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982, as "Women's History Week." In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as "Women's History Month." This month recognizes the achievements of women in all facets of life - science, community, government, literature, art, sports and medicine. The National Women's History Project (NWHP) encourages us to discover stories about our mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers to help us better understand their lives, the challenges they faced, and ultimately, ourselves and our own times.
