Event Description
Getting Started with ArcGIS is the first in a three-part series of hands-on trainings designed to teach new users how to create basic maps using ArcGIS software and explore spatial data for Philadelphia.
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to describe the ArcGIS user interface, change symbols and colors of map features, create a simple map suitable for a presentation and identify examples of publicly available spatial data for Philadelphia.
The workshop series is cosponsored by the Urban Health Collaborative and the Center for Public Health Practice, both in the Dornsife School of Public Health.
Getting Started with ArcGIS will be taught by Steven Melly, MS. Mr. Melly is a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst for the Urban Health Collaborative at Dornsife School of Public Health. He has extensive experience using GIS to model the physical world for public health research. Working closely with epidemiologists and biostatisticians, he has used GIS to create variables from spatial datasets that can be used in statistical models of exposure to environmental hazards. He has also used GIS to create neighborhood measures of the social environment. |
