3D Printing - From Chocolate to Human Organ
Start Date: 11/12/2013Start Time: 11:00 AM
End Date: 11/12/2013End Time: 12:00 PM
Event Description
Suitable for attendees of any level interested in learning more about various approaches and opportunities in 3D printing (3DP), this presentation will cover salient, state-of-the-art advances in research and development in the fields of 3DP and Bio-3DP work conducted at the Biomanufacturing Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics.

Researchers will briefly introduce the fundamentals of 3DP and selective applications, including examples of bio-modeling, 3DP of tissue scaffolds, 3DP of living cells to build in vitro biological models as well as applications to regenerative medicine, disease study, drug testing and micro-tissue/organ systems. Challenges and opportunities of 3DP, particularly Bio-3DP, in engineering and life sciences will also be discussed.

Presenters: Wei Sun, Ph.D., Albert Soffa Chair Professor, with the Drexel Biomanufacturing Team: Jessica Snyder, Qudus Hamid, Chengyang Wang and Yigong Liu from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics.

These events are part of a series of discussions. The 3D at Drexel initiative engages experts, information-savvy librarians, and highlights research activities around campus to explore this media and help foster core information skills among students.

Drexel University Libraries identifies a core interdisciplinary role supporting learning, teaching, and research throughout our University. Recognizing that independent efforts utilizing 3D technologies to image, design, and print 3D objects are rapidly being considered and developed throughout the campuses, the Libraries fosters opportunities for dialog and collaboration among faculty with development of a program to explore 3D literacies in support of the DSLPs for Information Literacy and for Technology Use.
