Event Description
Destiny's Bridge is a documentary about a community of 80 homeless people living off the grid in the woods in New Jersey.
Their community was known as Tent City and after living there and homesteading for six years, the Lakewood Township decided to file a lawsuit against them to evict them from that property. This started a two year legal battle between the homeless people living in the community and the township.
The homeless people then set out to create their own self-sustainable shelter that provided affordable housing and rehabilitation. This film is interesting because it talks about new ideas and solutions for housing the homeless rather than many documentaries that show how people become homeless. The main character who founded Tent City will speak along with the director in a Q&A session after the screening.
