Abstract

DC microgrids are being investigated as a future microgrid of choice due to lower transmission loss when compared to AC microgrids, and because of the proliferation of power electronic equipment and constant power loads. However, major problems with both small and large signal stability of the DC microgrid are roadblocks to implementation.

Even though the ring bus low voltage distribution bus conguration is reported in literature to be more reliable and fault tolerant than the conventional radial bus, there exist very few work in literature that examines both small and large signal reliability of the DC ring bus conguration. Hence, in this thesis, the ring bus DC low voltage microgrid is considered and evaluated for both small and large signal stabilities in view of converters chaotic (nonlinear) behavior and availabilities of different load types that may jeopardize stability of the microgram.
