Event Description
Eleven professors are stranded on a desert island. With only one chance for escape (a single-person life raft), each “islander” must argue for why they — specifically, their discipline — is most deserving of survival.
The Islanders:
- Biodiversity, Earth & Environmental Science: Ted Daeschler, PhD
- Biology: Katy Gonder, PhD
- Chemistry: Craig McClure, PhD
- Criminology & Justice Studies: Jordan Hyatt, PhD, JD
- English & Philosophy: Stacey Ake, PhD
- Global Studies & Modern Languages: Joel Oestreich, PhD
- History: Lloyd Ackert, PhD
- Mathematics: Robert Immordino, MS
- Physics: Frank Ferrone, PhD
- Politics: Zoltan Buzas, PhD
- Psychology: Nancy Raitano Lee, PhD
Anthropology’s Tony Glascock took home the coveted Raft Debate trophy in 2015. Will the social sciences prevail again, or will they be outwitted by the humanities or sciences? Come clap, heckle and cheer for your favorite faculty member or discipline. Only one can survive and YOU decide their fate!
PS: Our faculty members won’t be the only ones winning — all student attendees will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win prizes. And of course, there will be free food (because what island party would be complete without a feast?).
