Glorisa J. Canino, Ph.D.  Dr. Canino is a Professor at the School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, and the Director of the Behavioral Sciences Research Institute that is under the office of the Dean of Academic Affairs at the School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Canino has been the principal investigator of several psychiatric epidemiological, methodological and health care disparity studies that have been carried out in the island since 1984. Dr. Canino is currently principal investigator of four RO1’s major studies in collaboration with Rhode Island Hospital, Harvard University and Columbia University and one R34.  She was a council member of the National Advisory Mental Health Council, of the National Institute of Health and is currently a reviewer and member of the editorial board of several scientific and peer review journals. Dr. Canino is a leading Latino researcher in the areas of cross-cultural child and adult psychiatric epidemiology, pediatric asthma, health care disparities, child development, maternal health, as well as in the areas of service utilization patterns and barriers to care faced by Latino children and adults. She has collaborated and continues to collaborate with several investigators in the U.S. and abroad in the analyses of data sets, in multi site research studies, and in the translation and adaptation of methods and instruments.
