End Date: 4/20/2016End Time: 5:00 PM
Event Description

Fraser Fleming, PhD, head of the Department of Chemistry

Science. Organic chemistry is a highly unusual specialty within chemistry. It enables the discovery of new molecular processes for synthesizing diverse products that range from polymers to pharmaceuticals. The first part of the presentation will use the chemistry of nitriles and isonitriles to illustrate the discovery process and potential applications in the discovery of new medicines. Religion. Science and religion are intertwined like DNA, collectively providing two perspectives on reality that speak to life's most fundamental issues: purpose, meaning and morality. Part two of the presentation will survey some of the fruitful points of intersection ranging from chemistry to cosmology to consciousness. Future. Part three will show how chemical synthesis and sustainability are likely to shape the future of society.

The College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's Seminars are free and open to the Drexel community. Light refreshments will be served.
