Event Description
Physical Activity, Fitness and Participation in Children with Special Health Care Needs: Intervention Strategies & Outcome Effectiveness
Presented by Margaret O'Neil, PT, PhD, MPH
Children with special health care needs include children with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy and those with chronic conditions such as obesity. Children with these conditions often have limited physical activity opportunities, decreased health and fitness and decreased participation in community activities. Technological interventions such as active video games, virtual reality and augmented reality are feasible strategies to promote physical activity, fitness and participation. This presentation will review the evidence on the effectiveness of gaming technology to promote outcomes in pediatric physical therapy and rehabilitation.
