Event Description Please join the Office of International Programs and the Office of Faculty Affairs for a presentation at Drexel University by Dr. Judith Lasker, Distinguished Professor of Sociology, Lehigh University. Dr. Lasker will speak about her new book, Hoping to Help, published by Cornell University Press, which details her research on global health volunteering. Short-term volunteer trips to economically developing countries have exploded in numbers in the last few decades. This talk describes the controversy around short-term international volunteering and will present Dr. Lasker’s research which includes global interviews, surveys, and observations. Dr. Lasker proposes nine key principles for effective volunteering and will discuss the characteristics of trips that create real value for volunteers and host country alike.
