This Ain’t Agriculture: How Industrial Agriculture Hurts Animals and Public's Health
Start Date: 4/8/2014Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Date: 4/8/2014End Time: 8:30 PM
Event Description
Bernad Rollin, PhD, University Distinguished Professor, professor of philosophy, professor of biomedical sciences, professor of animal sciences, and university bioethicist at Colorado State University

Though agriculture has traditionally been based on an environmentally sustainable model, emphasizing good animal husbandry, over the course of the 20th  century the emphasis on cheap, affordable food pushed agriculture into an industrial model. This industrial agriculture poses major challenges to society because of its negative effects on animals, the environment and the public’s health. We can meet these challenges in the future by learning from the past, and once again placing animals in environments benefiting their natures; not only is this good for the animals, but it will also help to ensure an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible agriculture for the future.
