Event Description The Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department welcomes former faculty member Dr. Bernard McNamee ‘53, MBA ‘60 as the guest lecturer for the 2013 Civil Engineering Alumni Lecture.
Dr. McNamee worked at Drexel from 1955 to 1988, with a brief break between 1964 and 1967 to obtain his PhD in Structural Engineering at Lehigh University. During his time as a professor at Drexel, Dr. McNamee was the Director of the Structural Testing Laboratory (1970-1976), Department Head of Civil Engineering (1976-1983), and the Director of the Architectural Engineering program (1984-1988). At Drexel, he was responsible for structuring the Architectural Engineering Program curriculum and for establishing the combined dual degrees of BS in AE and BS in CE with a structures major.
His expertise lies in Design of High Rise Reinforced Concrete and Steel Structures, Structural Vibrations and Fatigue, Bridge Design, Structural Building Connections, Composite Materials, Structural Design in Shipbuilding, Wind and Seismic Loads. He was awarded 6 teaching awards including the Lindback Teaching Award (1971), Outstanding Educators of America (1973), and Educator of the Year, First Recipient, Philadelphia Chapter, ASCE (1986). Dr. McNamee was an extremely active member in numerous engineering societies and held a successful private consulting practice. This annual lecture is made possible by the generosity of Wesley O.
