Event Description
SHOW WHAT YOU "CAN DU" THIS SPRING! Drexel alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and families are invited to join the Community Alumni Network at Drexel University (CAN DU) for a spring service project at the Lee Cultural Center. Located directly behind the University’s Vidas Athletic Complex, the Lee Cultural Center is a 9.4-acre recreation and community activity hub that services Drexel’s West Philadelphia neighbors with afterschool programming, camps, dance classes, sport courts and fields, a public pool and more. Our CAN DU volunteers will work to enhance the Center's exterior and interior facilities just in time for the summer camps that will soon take up residence there this summer. Volunteers will brighten up the Center's outdoor recreation areas with playground games, trash and debris clean-up, landscaping and other beautification projects. We'll update the Center's learning resources by providing books and other materials—creating a mini-library for the students' use. We'll also take on some physical improvements to the building facilities. We'll begin the day fueling up with a breakfast buffet at Drexel Pizza, before we hop aboard Drexel shuttle buses for the quick trip to the Lee Cultural Center. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and we'll cap-off the project with an outdoor picnic lunch at the Center. During the lunch, Drexel's Lindy Center for Civic Engagement will provide an opportunity for volunteers to participate in an optional, guided reflection discussion. In addition, you can help stock the Center with playground and recreation supplies including, but not limited to: baseballs, bats and mits, kick balls, basketballs, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, tennis balls and rackets, Wiffle balls and bats, and more.
