First Friday Art Exhibit Opening, featuring "Beyond the Wall" by Philadelphia Mural Arts
Start Date: 5/1/2015Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 5/1/2015End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description
The Philadelphia Mural Arts Restorative Justice program is shining a light on the rapid growth of the prison population problem through the Beyond the Wall series. A selection of murals related to public health will be on display in the Nesbitt Hall Connelly Collaboratory this Spring, in partnership with the School of Public Health.

All are invited to attend an introduction and welcome on May 1 at 4pm, followed by the exhibit opening.

The Beyond the Wall project was initiated through discussions among Eric Okdeh, muralist and instructor, and inmates participating in the Mural Arts Program inside SCI Graterford, a large maximum security prison located outside Philadelphia. Okdeh conducted numerous interviews, and photos of the interviewees and their quotes serve as the basis for the mini mural designs. Funding for this project generously provided by the Ford Foundation.
