Event Description

The Department of Sport Management cordially welcomes Chris McKendry, ’90, SportsCenter anchor and host at ESPN and Barbara Perry, Sr. Vice President/General Manager of the Philadelphia Freedoms to campus on Friday, May 15 at 11:30am in the Academic Bistro (101 N. 33rd Street, 6th Floor).   McKendry and Perry will be discussing sports media, professional tennis, and the challenges of broadening the reach of tennis in today’s media world. 

The discussion is open to sport management undergraduate and graduate students, the department’s alumni as well as members of the Drexel men’s and women’s tennis teams.

About Chris McKendry

Chris McKendry has been a SportsCenter anchor on ESPN since 1996 and the mid-day host since 2008.  McKendry serves as a host for a variety of sporting events such as the NFL Draft, the College Football Playoff Championships, the Little League World Series and the upcoming Scripps Spelling Bee.  

A college tennis player, she also hosts the extensive schedule of telecasts from tennis’ Majors – the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.  

Born in Philadelphia, McKendry was graduated from Drexel University in 1990.  A dean’s list scholar for three years, McKendry attended Drexel on a tennis scholarship.   

About Barbara Perry

Barbara Perry has enjoyed a storied career spanning over 30 years in the world of sports.   As a senior vice president at International Management Group, Perry was involved with the promotion and direction of hundreds of events throughout the world including:  The Kentucky Derby, World Championships of Women’s Golf, Marlboro Grand Prix of New York, US Pro Tennis Championships, Stars on Ice, New York Fashion Week and more. 

Presently, Perry serves as the senior vice president/general manager of the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis.  Perry is also the principal of Barbara Perry Consulting with clients including Billie Jean King, World Team Tennis and IMG.  

Perry is a summa cum laude graduate of St. John’s University in New York where she was inducted into the university’s hall of fame in 1996.
