Event Description
Don Roy King has earned five Emmys during his nine seasons of directing the legendary Saturday Night Live. King has been with the show since 2006 in addition to serving as creative director of Broadway Worldwide, which brings theatrical events to movie theaters. He previously served as creative director at CBS for fourteen years, where he directed The Early Show, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung and the CBS Morning News. At ABC, King directed Good Morning America for six years and if you add to that his four live Survivor finales and three Olympics, he quite possibly has more live directing hours under his belt than any other network director in the business. Westphal College and the Rudman Institute will host a behind-the-scenes discussion with King about SNL, one of the most popular and longest-running network programs in the country, on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30pm in the URBN Center Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert Street).
At Broadway Worldwide King directed the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis for theatrical release, among several others including Smokey Joe’s Café, Putting It Together with Carol Burnett, and Jekyll & Hyde. He recently directed the prime time special celebrating the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, this cultural pillar that has received more Emmy nominations than any other television show.
This will be a homecoming of sorts for the director, who early in his career lived and worked in Philadelphia directing the Mike Douglas Show. For more information about the free-to-the-public event, please contact Karen Curry at kac387@drexel.edu.
