Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend Drexel University’s 1st STEM Series: "The Lives and Lessons of the Underrepresented in STEM" hosted by the College of Engineering and the Society for Women in Engineering on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 12:00pm-4:00pm at the Bossone 3rd Floor Atrium.
Through the voices of a variety of educated panelists- including faculty, seasoned professionals and new graduates- participants will learn how to successfully navigate and work in a field that commonly discriminates and objectifies those who differ from the norm. The panelists will share anecdotes, provide facts and information, express points of view, motivate, inspire, and reveal the truth behind the very real problems minorities face in the workplace today, problems no individual can solve on their own. Audience participants are invited and encouraged to ask questions, offer suggestions and learn ways to combat discrimination in their own workplace.
Everyone will take comfort knowing they are not alone and learn new ways to successfully navigate and work in a field that has come far, but still has far to come. Participants are encouraged to listen, learn, empathize and effect change. The conversations may be as challenging as they are constructive, but all attendees will become more engaged members of the STEM community at Drexel and beyond. Attendees will leave with newfound knowledge and compassion, a greater awareness of our differences and our privileges, and a stronger voice that will advocate for change and equality.
