Event Description The Office of the Provost with the Drexel Center for Academic Excellence invites all Drexel faculty to attend one, or all, of four sessions on best practices in Teaching and Learning, May 17-18, 2012, featuring Dr. Todd Zakrajsek, Executive Director of the International Teaching Learning Cooperative and immediate past Executive Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Please note that seating is limited, and interested faculty members are requested to complete our online RSVP form (on the DCAE website: drexel.edu/dcae) by Tuesday, May 15.
We know good teaching when we see it. The challenge is to find a way to document the positive impact of what we do in the classroom and to differentiate between evaluation for improvement (formative evaluation) and evaluation for personnel decisions (summative evaluation). A primary obstacle in this process is that what we do is often not easily measured. This session is designed to demonstrate why it is important to evaluate classroom instruction, provide a conceptual framework by which information can be collected, and to identify some easy ways to get started with information that is very helpful to the faculty of record. |
