This month, meet graduate students Lincoln Rehm and Michelle Gannon study giant clams. These marvelous mollusks are an important part of coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean. They have brilliantly colored tissues with abundant algae that help make food for the giant clam to use to build its shell. See the large shells of different species, and feel how heavy they are. Get hands-on practice sampling water to measure the different types of food the algae and giant clams eat while learning how this makes their relationship special. |
