Event Description

Title: Technical Challenges Involved with Human-Machine Virtual Reality Interfaces

Speaker:  Nick Whiting, Director of AR & VR at Epic Games

Date, Time and Location: Tuesday, May 2, 2:00pm, Hill Conference Room (LeBow Engineering 240)

Synopsis: With the advent of virtual reality technology, both technical and design considerations must be made in order to ensure that the user has a positive experience.  With successful VR applications, developers must not only consider the technical factors such as rendering performance and latency, but also human factors, such as proprioceptive disconnect and the uncanny valley.  The session will present a post-mortem of the development of several VR applications, including the recent "Bullet Train" and "Robo Recall" demos, including learnings and observations from the development of both the games themselves, and the underlying technical engine.
