Planning Philadelphia: Land Use, Zoning, and Regulations Panel Discussion

Event Description
You are cordially invited to join the sociology department for the first event in our "Power, Pleasure, and Space: Planning the 21st Century City" speaker series! On May 22nd, from 12:20 - 1:50 p.m., we will be hosting Planning Philadelphia: Land Use, Zoning, and Regulations panel discussion, featuring Laura Spina and Eva Gladstein.

 

Laura Spina is Director of Community Planning at the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, where she oversees a staff of eleven community planners and manages Philadelphia2035: District Plans, the City’s first comprehensive plan since 1960. She was previously the community planner for Center City, working with various neighborhood groups and City agencies in shaping the development that occurs in the heart of Philadelphia. Laura represents the PCPC on two city boards – the Mayor’s Historic Preservation Task Force and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority’s Art Committee.

Eva Gladstein is Deputy Managing Director of Health and Human Services for the City of Philadelphia, where she oversees five City Departments including; Behavioral Health, Human Services, Supportive Housing, Public Health and Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO). Previously, she was Executive Director of CEO where she developed and implemented a nationally recognized comprehensive citywide plan to address poverty called Shared Prosperity Philadelphia, and served a three year assignment as Executive Director of the Philadelphia Zoning Code Commission, successfully reforming and modernizing Philadelphia's 50-year old zoning code.

This event is the first event in the Power, Pleasure, and Space: Planning the 21st Century City speaker series, which is sponsored by the Sociology Faculty Development Fund to Support Research and Scholarship.
