Event Description

Speaker: Ryan Hynd, Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania

Abstract: The problems of determining the shape and stability of a rotating liquid drop has attracted the attention of many scientists including J. Plateau, Lord Rayleigh, H. Poincare, and S. Chandrasekhar.  Nevertheless, many interesting problems remain open including the existence of non-symmetric, stable drops. We will discuss several aspects of these problems and some recent work on the classification of rotational toriodal-shaped drops.
