Event Description
Data science is experiencing a renaissance with the rapid proliferation of data from all parts of our society. No longer is data being generated by large businesses, economic or government structures, but now by people via social networks, and sensors throughout our homes.
Big Data's challenges are exciting in that they are interdisciplinary: handling the heterogeneous volume, velocity, variety, veracity, and value of data requires expertise in infrastructure, high-performance computing and parallelism, statistics and data analytics, machine learning, and systems programming.
In this talk, we will overview the current state of Big Data and techniques for managing it.
