End Date: 6/16/2014End Time: 8:30 PM
Event Description

Experience the colorful world of the South Pacific! Join the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Papua New Guinea Tourism, and Swain Destinations as we present an evening of exploration and adventure in one of Earth’s most unique locations: Papua New Guinea.

This island, the third largest remaining rainforest on Earth with over 6 percent of our planet’s biodiversity, is home to six-foot-tall birds that can kill with a kick, kangaroos that live in the trees, and many more unique creatures. There is truly no place like Papua New Guinea.

At 7 p.m., biologist and author Dr. Andrew Mack will share his decades of experience exploring and studying New Guinea’s last great unknown rainforests.

Dr. Mack is now an independent conservationist, author, and executive director of the Indo-Pacific Conservation Alliance. His experiences in New Guinea over 20 years form the foundation of his new book, Searching for Pekpek: Cassowaries and Conservation in the New Guinea Rainforest. He has worked for two of the largest international conservation organizations and two of the most highly regarded natural history museums in the United States, including the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Along with the lecture, meet tribesmen from Papua New Guinea on their first-ever visit to Philadelphia. They will proudly display their culture through dance, story, and live carving demonstrations.

Free and open to the public.
