Event Description
The practice of meditation is a method for discovering how the mind works. When we become aware of our thoughts, we begin to see how thoughts tell us stories about ourselves and our experiences. The story-telling mind has conversations with people who are not in the room, and it scolds us for being inadequate, careless, or even worthless. Without awareness, a little story can become a full-length screenplay, complete with locations, casting, and critics' reviews. Through the practice of meditation we cultivate an awareness which enables us to distinguish between the story and reality of who we are and the world around us.
Our speaker Jude Robison has been practicing mindfulness meditation for 30 years. She has taught meditation in cities all across the United States and Canada. Formerly the co-director of Karme Choling Meditation Center in Vermont, she is currently teaching and working in Philadelphia. She enjoys teaching meditation to beginners, as well as those who wish to deepen their existing practice.
