Event Description
Take part in an exploration of working with lesbian, gay, bi+, trans*, queer, asexual, and intersex (LGBTQAI+) clients as well as the unique experiences of LGBTQAI+ therapists and students. The first portion of this training will delve into oppression, bias, and privilege. Next, the training will focus on sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity within the lens of queer theory. Fluidity of sexual orientation and gender along with the processes of coming out and transitioning will be examined. Third, the presenter will introduce minority stress and its effects upon the LGBTQAI+ communities, with a focus on youth, bi+, and trans* individuals. Finally, the participants will explore best practices for LGBTQAI+ clients, students, and coworkers that they can implement in their own practices.
