Safe Consumption Services and Other Novel Approaches to Prevent HIV and Overdose


Guest Presentation by Alex H. Kral, PhD, nationally-recognized harm reduction scholar, director of the Behavioral & Urban Health Program at RTI International 

Kral will provide a summary of his US-based research on safe consumption services (SCS), including acceptability, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness research in San Francisco and evaluation of an unsanctioned SCS in an undisclosed location in the US.

Local harm reduction scholars will present current studies focusing on opioid using populations in Kensington:

Alexis Roth, PhD, MPH: Pre-exposure prophylaxis acceptability among women who inject drugs 

Janna Ataiants, DrPH(c): Violence and overdose among women who inject drugs 

Megan Reed, DrPH(c): Preventing overdose during re-entry 

Stephen Lankenau, PhD: Improving overdose response using mobile phone technology
