Physics Senior Presentation: "Multiple Band Gaps in a Complex Oxide System"
Start Date: 6/5/2013Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 6/5/2013End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description

Physics Major: Marc Doyle

Abstract: Density Functional Theory (DFT) has predicted multiple narrow band gaps in a Strontium Scandium Bismate and Lead Scandium Niobate solid solution. This alloy is predicted to be a ferroelectric semiconductor with at least four intermediate bad gaps in the UV-Visible range. Photoluminescent measurements are used to probe these band gaps and are done by laser excited florescence.
