Event Description Africana Studies is proud to host a portion of the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia. “The BlackStar Film Festival is a celebration of cinema focused on work by and about people of African descent in a global context. BlackStar highlights films that are often overlooked from emerging, established, and mid-career directors, writers and producers working in narrative, documentary, experimental and music video filmmaking.” This festival has also been hailed by Ebony magazine as “the black Sundance.”
This festival will take place from August 1 – 4, with Drexel engagements on August 3 and 4. Most films and panel discussions that are screened at Drexel will be available to the Drexel community at a reduced price (valid Drexel ID must be presented when picking up tickets), though most events are free.
Please visit the BlackStar website for ticket information.
