Event Description

With Grace Kerschensteiner, former Gilman Scholar to Singapore; Lauren Steinberg, Study Abroad Office; and Brittnie Thomas, Drexel Central.

 

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented study abroad opportunities. This info session will familiarize you with the award, application process, and best practices for constructing a competitive application, as well as introduce you to staff from supporting offices. Please RSVP in advance.

 

Spring/Summer 2016 deadline: October 6, 2015 (applications open in mid-August).

The Gilman Scholarship aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, students in STEM fields, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

 

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Federal Pell Grant recipients at the time of application or during the study abroad term,
  • Applying to or have been accepted into a study abroad program/internship eligible for credit at Drexel,
  • Studying or interning abroad for at least four weeks in one country,
  • Studying or interning abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the US Department of State's current Travel Warning list.  

In addition, applicants are encouraged to choose non-traditional study and intern destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
