Event Description
Join the Academy of Natural Sciences and Moms Clean Air Force for an Urban Sustainability Forum panel discussion on air pollution and children’s health.
Traffic pollution, power plant emissions, and chemicals in consumer products and cleaning supplies are among the air pollutants that children breathe every day. In urban environments such as Philadelphia, children may be exposed to high levels of heavy metals, ozone, small particles, and other chemicals that can cause long-term health effects in addition to adversely impacting prenatal and early childhood growth and development, as well as lung function. We will discuss what public health experts know about how polluted air affects children’s health, and we will explore what parents can do to ensure that their children grow up strong and healthy.

Free Children's Educational Activity
Children between the ages of 4 and 11 are invited to attend the September 19 Urban Sustainability Forum with their parents and participate in a children’s activity hosted by the Academy’s Education Department. We will play games and make crafts while parents attend a lecture on air pollution and its effect on children’s health. Kids will get to spend a free evening in Outside In (3rd Level), an interactive and hands-on learning environment that challenges young inquisitive minds.
