BEES Graduate Research Seminar

Protecting New Jersey’s environment: Practical lessons in how government scientists can affect public policy and ensure biological integrity, diversity, and conservation in a swiftly urbanizing America

Thomas Belton
New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Science

Thursday, September 26, 2013  3:30 PM - 4:50 PM

There is a demand today in government sector jobs for environmentalists, ornithologists, limnologists, hazardous waste chemists, toxicologists, and myriad other natural science majors. These specialties are needed to address the demands of a constantly warming planet, a burgeoning populace, and the demand on natural resources that require carefully constructed, science-based strategies to drive pubic policy and affect positive regulation in a business-friendly environment. Come and hear a presentation on the experiences of a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection research scientist concerning how natural science and biological research can affect legislation, litigation, and conservation in the needs of a vast New Jersey forest habitat and the biota that live amongst the trees.
