Diatom and Phycology Discovery Weekend

Event Description
Meet our scientists and learn why the microscopic organisms they study are so important. Uncover the beauty and artistry of diatoms and other algae.
 
Some of the activies planned for Diatom Discovery Weekend:
  • Take a look at preserved diatoms from the Diatom Herbarium. Try your hand at “collecting” diatoms and learn how diversity and water quality are connected.
  • Use a field guide to identify diatoms just like real scientists do in our matching game!
  • We’ve brought our collection site indoors. Scrape rocks for diatoms, make a slide, and then take a look at it under the microscope!
  • Make diatom sun catchers to take home, collect diatom specimens for your collection box, and more!
