Event Description
Explore the past, present, and future of the Academy of Natural Sciences as you race through Philadelphia on this celebratory scavenger hunt!
What:
While learning about the history of the Academy and Philadelphia, you will visit many different sections of the city to play games, solve clues, perform physical challenges, and more.
Wear a costume and win a prize! The Academy has seen many different clothing styles come and go since it was founded 200 years ago. Wear a costume from your favorite time period between 1812 and today and you will have the chance to win a prize! The audience’s favorite costume will be awarded a prize based on applause.
The scavenger hunt will involve the use of cameras and cellphones. For example, you can phone a friend for help with tough questions.
When:
Saturday, September 8, 2012.
Check-in begins at 8 am.
Orientation is at 9:15 am.
The race runs from 10 am to 2 pm (Rain or Shine).
Register at 2012scavengerhunt.eventbrite.com. The last day to register is Friday, August 31.
Who:
Teams of two to four people. Families can participate, but at least one member of every team must be at least 18 years old.
Scavenger Hunt Details:
- Check in begins at 8 am at the Academy (1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia) in Dinosaur Hall on September 8.
- All hunters must show ID and sign a release on race day.
- Orientation begins at 9:15 am in Dinosaur Hall.
- The hunt will begin promptly at 10 am.
- All teams (and all team members) must be back by 2 pm. You have four hours to find and complete at least five of the challenges.
- The race is not timed. The top three team(s) with the most points win. All teams must complete at least five challenges. The more challenges you complete, the more chances you have to collect points.
- You can choose which challenges to complete and in what order.
- Taxis, public transportation, bikes, and feet are permitted. No personal cars or motorcycles are allowed! You are on the honor system.
- Hunters may not interfere with other teams or block their progress.
- Cell phones and cameras are a must! You can call friends or use smart phones for help solving clues and puzzles.
- The challenges may be mental or physical.
- Teams cannot split up.
- Participants must wear their race bibs for identification during the race.
- All rulings of the hunt officials will be final.
Cost/registration:
- Register at 2012scavengerhunt.eventbrite.com.
- $20 members, $25 nonmembers
- Members must obtain a code to receive the discount. Call 215-299-1022 to get the code.
- Select one member of your team to register all of your team members. If you are in charge of registering your team, you must select a team name, provide the names of all the team members, and provide their ages. At least one team member must be 18.
Refunds:
- Any cancellations made more than 14 days before the event will be refunded in full.
- Cancellations made within 14 days of the event will not receive a refund.
- The event runs rain or shine; however, severe weather conditions may require the Academy’s Reservation Office to cancel the event. Notice of the cancellation will be provided at least 12 hours prior to the scheduled event. No refunds will be given if event is cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
- If one team member cannot make it, you may find another person to take their place.
