Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the prevalence of depressive and anxious symptoms among individuals with CF and caregivers.
- Identify how psychological symptoms negatively affect disease management, including adherence to medications, nutrition, clinic attendance, health outcomes and quality of life.
- Identify evidence-based intervention strategies that address symptoms of depression and anxiety.
- Review and implement the new recommendations for screening and treatment of anxiety and depression in CF.
- Describe the efficacy data for using CBT to treat depression and anxiety in children and adults.
- Explain the basic components of an evidence-based CBT treatment approach.
- Apply this new knowledge to their communication with patients and families when discussing depression/anxiety and expectations about CBT counseling.
