Drexel's Judaic Studies Program and the Department of English and Philosophy present “Sheva de-Nechamta: Consolation and Anti-theodicy in Isaiah,” a lecture by Eli Schonfeld, PhD, fellow, Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, University of Pennsylvania.

 

Is there a distinct theology of consolation in Judaism? By analyzing selected passages in the book of Isaiah, the lecture will identify an original approach to the question of evil and its justification, in relation to the problem of suffering.

Schonfeld is the author of "The Wonder of Subjectivity: A Reading of Levinas’ Philosophy," (in Hebrew, 2007), and "Moses Mendelssohn: An Inquiry into the Birth of Modern Jewish Philosophy" (in French, 2015).
