Event Description

Celebrate dinosaurs and their closest living relatives—birds –with  a holiday weekend of family fun at the Academy of Natural Sciences. Explore the world of the dinosaurs as your examine real fossils up close, meet live birds, and talk with dinosaur experts. Fun games and crafts are guaranteed to enlighten everyone from the wisest to the youngest dinosaur experts in your family. Free with museum admission.

Academy Animal Ambassadors
11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Meet some of the live animals that call the Academy home during this live animal show. 

Dinosaur Detectives
1 p.m.
Do you know what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur? Can you tell a fossil from a fake? Put your skills to the test during this interactive stage show and meet a live animal that has some things in common with the extinct stars of the show. Discover their stories and learn what you can do to help their wild cousins.

This holiday weekend take a closer look at the bird of honor. Talk turkey with Academy experts, and see if you can separate the fact from fiction about this very special dinosaur.

Fossil Forensics
Touch real fossils and use your dinosaur detective skills to solve prehistoric puzzles.

Closer Look: Fossils
Think you can tell a fossil from a rock? Can you figure out what happened to an animal that lived millions of years ago? Try your hand at some serious science at our brand new discovery cart.

Make and take your own dinosaur-themed craft.

Chocolate: The Exhibition

Indulge yourself in the sumptuous world of chocolate! Presented in Spanish and English, Chocolate: The Exhibitiontraces the intriguing story of this “food of the gods” from its origin as a unique rain forest tree to the sensuous sweet millions of people crave today. Explore chocolate’s impact on tropical ecosystems, human cultures, and the global economy through a range of fun, hands-on activities for all ages. Stand under a life-size cacao tree, touch pods and seeds, and more.

Chocolate and its national tour were developed by The Field Museum, Chicago. This project was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation. $5 nonmembers, $3 Individual and Family members, free for Family Plus members and above. Not a member?
