Workshop Description:
Teaching Assistants (TAs) represent approximately one-third of the Drexel University Online Learning Council membership. TAs have expressed interest and have been attending Online Course Design workshops throughout the year to support faculty who have online elements to their course. This workshop is a primer to online course design and will discuss best practices and resources available to TAs to extend their teaching skills to online courses. The workshop addresses core design elements such as measureable outcomes, assessment strategies, alignment of assignments and student engagement.
The workshop uses a case study to illustrate the use of Blackboard Learn Tools in media, testing, assignment submission and grading. The case study will present instructor and student perspectives. Upon registration of the workshop, TAs will be provided a Sandbox Shell in Blackboard Learn. The Sandbox Shell contains workshop materials and an area where they can practice their online course design and teaching skills. Also, this sandbox shell will provide an opportunity for them to be mentored by OLT staff and Online Learning Council Fellows. The skills presented in this workshop can be applied to support face-to-face, hybrid and online courses.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify characteristics for measurable learning objectives.
2. Apply alignment techniques between course learning objectives, instructional strategies (activities/assignments), and assessment techniques.
3. Develop appropriate student assessments for a given instructional strategy.
4. Apply Blackboard Learn Tools associated with media, interactivity, assessment, testing and grading.
