Social Justice Week: Half the Sky Documentary Viewing
Start Date: 4/22/2015Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 4/22/2015End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description
Campus Engagement in collaboration with Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Women's Empowerment at Drexel, Multicultural Greek Council and the Panhellenic Council will host a documentary screening and discussion of Half the Sky.

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide chronicles six women from different countries and their struggles with oppression. Topics include gender-based violence, sex trafficking, education, maternal mortality, forced prostitution and economic empowerment. Shot in 10 countries (Cambodia, Kenya, India, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Liberia and the US) and inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book, the documentary series introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable and fighting bravely to change them. Traveling with intrepid reporter Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde, the film reflects viable and sustainable options for empowerment and offers an actionable blueprint for transformation.

This event is part of Social Justice Week and is a CEO LEAD-certified program.

Lunch will be provided.
