Creating Age-Friendly Innovations Exhibition: Opening Reception
Start Date: 11/28/2022Start Time: 11:00 AM
End Date: 11/28/2022End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description

Join us for the opening reception of a joint exhibition by current students and older adults from the South Philadelphia Asian community who are participating in Drexel’s course Creating Age-Friendly Innovations. In the exhibition, students and older participants will show their creative age-friendly co-design projects and invite you to interact with their prototypes.

Students are looking for feedback and are happy to share their stories and answer questions from guests. If you are interested, you can even talk to the two faculty members: June He, assistant professor from Product Design, and Catherine Quay, assistant clinical professor from Nursing, to find out how to be more involved in the course moving forward. If you just want to be an observer, that’s great as well. All are welcome! Refreshments will be served.

ABOUT THE CREATING AGE-FRIENDLY INNOVATIONS COURSE

The course Creating Age-Friendly Innovations within the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design provides students with a foundational understanding of empathic design and the aging process. Students learn to apply this understanding by collaborating with older persons from the Asian community within Philadelphia to research, design and develop age-friendly solutions that meet the needs of an increasingly diverse, aging population. Incorporating cultural awareness, understanding of implicit bias and ageism, and intergenerational collaborative design (co-design, also called participatory design) activities will facilitate the development of solutions that will culminate in a public exhibit highlighting the innovative creations developed during this course.
