Environmental Epi & Cardio-Metabolic Disease: New Insights, Challenges, & Research Opportunities
Start Date: 1/26/2021Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Date: 1/26/2021End Time: 3:00 PM
Event Description
The department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Dornsife presents Tara P. McAlexander, PhD, MPH, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Dornsife School of Public Health.

Talk title: "Environmental Epidemiology and Cardio-Metabolic Disease: New Insights, Challenges, and Emerging Opportunities for Research"

McAlexander will discuss her recent work on the role of community and environmental exposures in relation to cardio-metabolic health outcomes, specifically heart failure and type 2 diabetes.

This talk will cover three research projects: unconventional natural gas development and heart failure; methods for defining community type in collaborative epidemiologic research; and associations between particulate matter air pollution less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) in the Southeastern United States.

In discussing these, McAlexander will highlight inferential and logistical challenges and the opportunities these challenges present for environmental epidemiology research.
