Event Description
ASPE and CSI Philadelphia Chapters are sponsoring a friendly COMPETITION among Drexel University Students. The competition is a Bid Day simulation that will test your ability to submit the winning "Hard Bid". This type of proposal typically requires that the general contractor prepare a single lump sum bid for an entire project that is then submitted to a project owner in a sealed envelope by a certain time on a certain day – known as Bid Day. All the submitted general contractor bids are then opened and read out loud for all to hear, and the contractor submitting the lowest complete bid is usually awarded the project contract.
Preparing the winning bid is rewarding itself, and bragging rights sure do make it sweeter. But nothing says winner like cold hard cash! Thanks to the sponsorship of the Architectural Glass Institute, the winning team will receive a $500 cash prize to be split among the team.
How Does Bid Day Work?
ASPE developed Bid Day as a way of educating general contractor estimators who have not had the opportunity to be exposed to the pace, workflow and best practices of reviewing bids and compiling a proposal submittal in the environment of a hard bid on bid day.
After a brief introduction teams will break out into their own rooms to dive into the bids of their subs and develop their own final sealed bid. Each team will have a member from ASPE to guide them through the process. We know you'll have questions of your subs so you'll have an opportunity to meet with the various contractors regarding the specifics of their bid to you. CSI and ASPE members will play the part of subcontractors and will pop in to each "war room" to answer questions. But don't worry, you can reach them via chat if you have additional questions.
