Event Description
Join us on Friday, October 27th for the fourth seminar in our Fall Series! Guest lecturer Dr. Dirk Trauner will be joining us from the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Chemistry.
Abstract:
Neuropharmacology continues to drive new developments in chemistry and biology. I will exemplify this with a new synthesis of Tetrodotoxin (TTX), which targets voltage-gated sodium channels, that can deliver the neurotoxin in 22 steps and on a useful scale. photopharmacology of ion channel blockers will be covers as well. Finally, I will make the case that "Proximity Photopharmacology" is a particularly effective strategy to control the fate and function of proteins, with an emphasis on ion channels and applications in neuroscience.
